Open Source Camera Build Kit
Coming Soon!
Hey All,
The monochrome camera received a lot of positive support and interest so I decided to focus this week on designing a DIY open source build kit for the camera. My prototype worked great but the assembly wasn’t refined and was held together by glue in a few different spots. The past few nights have been focused on sourcing new components and putting my trusty 3d printers to work!

The new design will have perfectly lined up holes to ensure quick and easy assembly (no glue required):

I also designed the mount to work with both a Mamiya C220 waist level viewfinder and a new 3d printed version.
From a sensor perspective, the one that I used in the prototype (Starlight Eye by Will Whang) is rarely in stock and hard to source. I recently found a new supplier and have a sensor on the way to test. Once I get it tested and working, I’ll release the final version of the build kit.
The kit will include the 3d printed body, Geekworm X1200 UPS and IMX 585 camera sensor + options to purchase the Pi 5, 4 inch display and lens. I’ll also create a post with the general assembly guide once it’s completed.
I’m only going to be creating a few kits to start off with to gauge interest. If you want to be one of the first people to get access to purchasing the kit, please fill out the survey below to join the waiting list:
I will also be making the STL files available for download to paid subscribers once I have the final versions completed (should be by this weekend).
Thank you all again for the continued support! Hope you all have a great Friday.
Cheers,
Malcolm
